Sad News Passing of Retired NARPO Members

Retired Chief inspector Ken Pritchard – Ken served from 1947 to 1982 in Abergavenny, Blackwood, Brynmawr and Headquarters.

Retired PS 495 Arthur John Roper – Arthur retired as a PS in 1998 after 30 years service. He then re-joined as a CDO at Ystrad Mynach Custody Unit, retiring for a second time after a further 15 years service.

Retired Police Inspector Kenneth Henry Charles Carey - Ken joined Newport Borough Police in 1966, then served with Gwent Constabulary on amalgamation. He served in Newport, HQ and Chepstow. He retired from the force in 1996 after 30 years’ service.

Retired constable Katherine Anne Parker - Katherine joined Gwent Police in 1990 and served throughout the force area, retiring in 2015 on ill health.


Retired Constable Cyril Waters, 91 years - Cy joined Newport Borough Police in 1951 and Gwent Constabulary on amalgamation. He retired in 1981 after 30 years and then worked as a civilian employee at Police HQ for a further 10 years.


Retired PC Norman Crockett - Norman served in the army from 1949 to 1952 before joining Monmouthshire Constabulary in May 1953. He served in Abergavenny, Abertillery and Aberbeeg. He was stationed at Abertillery during the 1960 Six Bells mining disaster and retired in 1983. Norman and his wife, Anthea, were active members of NARPO and GPPA for many years.


Retired Police Constable Peter Hugh William Roberts, 85 years - Pete joined the Glamorgan Constabulary in 1956, transferring to Newport Borough Police in 1966, and then Gwent Police on amalgamation. He served in uniform and Scenes of Crime at Newport and HQ, retiring in 1985.

Retired Sergeant Chris Belcher - Chris joined South Wales Police in 1968 and transferred to Gwent Police in 1996. Chris retired in 1999 after serving in uniform and CID at various stations. He then worked as a civilian employee for Gwent Police for some time prior to retiring a second time.


Retired Sergeant Gary Wells - Gary joined the Metropolitan Police in the early 1960’s before transferring to the Monmouthshire Constabulary and then serving with Gwent Police after amalgamation. Gary retired in 1998.

Retired PC Robert (Bob) MORGAN – Bob joined Monmouthshire Constabulary in 1962 and retired from Gwent Police in 1992. He spent the majority of his service in the Traffic department and was also a driving instructor. In his younger days, Bob played rugby for both Newport and Cross Keys.
